Hot Pot | bubble bubble

Hot pot is a fun and delicious way to have a meal and get caught up with family and friends.  You will have to put in a little effort to make your meal but it will be worth it.  And you’ll be sure to find something you love from all the different types of ingredients, sauces and sides available.  First you start with a big pot of broth and then add in your choice of vegetables, meat, seafood, noodles and other items.  Some hot pots have a divided pot where you can have two broths simmering at the same time, a great idea for anyone who wants both a spicier and mild option.  Some of our family’s favorite ingredients are:

  • Meat: pork, beef, lamb, tripe
  • Seafood: shrimp, scallops, shrimp and fish balls, crab
  • Vegetables: spinach, bok choy, mushrooms, cabbage, taro, bean sprouts, potatoes
  • Noodles: cellophane, wheat noodles, udon
  • Tofu
  • Dumplings

It’s also important to get the right timing for each of the ingredients.  Heartier vegetables, shrimp and fish balls, and mushrooms take longer versus thinly sliced meat.  You’ll get the hang of it by the end of the meal! Compliment your meat with dipping sauces and don’t forget the wonderful broth and noodles.
