Mr. Rogers is totally right

Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.  --- Mr. Rogers

I love this quote, and of course Mr. Rogers is right.  As my son is growing up I can see his little brain working while he plays- creating exciting adventures for his lion puppet and whipping up delicious dinners for us to enjoy at Buddy's Cafe.  I'm surprised his lion puppet hasn't been totally squished with all the love it has received at home and on the go.  We don't have a pet but I think that the lion is a pretty great (and low maintenance) substitute!  Toys that reflect his culture have been a wonderful way for him to reinforce his life through play but also for him to grow up appreciating it.
